A CHANCE ENCOUNTER - A SHORT NOVEL (to be cont'd)
She had been driving steadily, after a long and tiresome evening at her friends', when an unforeseen snow-storm made her finally stop her car. It looked as if out of nowhere. Woods, snow, snow and again woods... The snow level prevented her from driving any further and, all of a sudden, as she was looking around herself, her luck: she could perceive some lights through the snow-laden trees, far away, but not too far to get there. A house ?
Treading with difficulty on a treacherous and growing layer of powder-like snow, clutching her bag in one hand whilst steadying herself here and there with the other, she finally reached a building- half villa, half mansion - which looked oh! so welcoming and warm to her.
Cold and shivering, with her Caovilla sandals soaked and her feet icy, tired to death, she finally reached the place and, as there seemed to be no bell, knocked at the door and heard, almost immediately, the sound of steady steps coming towards her from within.
